Getting Your Own Solar PV System

If you’re considering having solar panels installed and wondering what the process is, then wonder no further. This page outlines what you can expect from Green Team One, each step of the way.

Customer Journey

Phone or Site Survey

After you’ve been in touch, we’ll book a date to meet, either virtually or face to face. We’ll ask lots of questions about what you need, what you want and what’s possible so that we can give you our best advice.

We’ll discuss things like:

  • How many panels would be best for your situation
  • Where the panels should go
  • Whether a battery is a good idea and, if so, what size
  • What make and size inverter is best, and where to put it
  • Where to run the cables
  • Any other requirements or needs you may have

System Design and Quote

One of our experienced design engineers will put together a proposed system including its cost, forecast yield and expected return on investment. You’ll receive this by email, and we’ll be very happy to answer any questions you have, and make any changes you want.

If you’re happy with the design and accept the quote:

Place the Order

You’ll pay a £100 deposit. This instigates compliance checks and if the system needs it (smaller systems don’t) then we’ll apply to the grid on your behalf. For most systems this comes back to us within 10 working days, but for exceptionally large systems it’s a different application which can take up to 45 days.

What happens if the application is unsuccessful? This almost never happens, but if the grid do decide that their infrastructure can’t integrate your system, then sadly we can’t proceed. We’ll give you a full refund of what you’ve paid.

Green Team One

Technical Survey

If it’s a straightforward job, then the technical survey will have been carried out at the same time as the design survey.

But if the job has an unusual cable run or other tricky features, an experienced installation engineer will come to your property and consult with you to specify the details. Much of this conversation will have already happened with the design engineer, but the installation engineer will make sure it’s done in the best possible way.

They’ll take photos and put together detailed instructions for the scaffolders, roofers and electricians. Once we’ve coordinated all of those people we can book provisional dates for the 3 different categories of work.

Customer Journey

Pay Deposit, Set Install Date

Once we’ve heard back from the grid we’ll ask you for a 25% deposit to confirm the installation date.

We get the kit delivered to our warehouse in Tortworth around a week before the install date so that we can inspect it. There’s not often a problem with it, but if there is then we’d much rather catch it early so we can rectify it. This is much better than ordering kit direct to site, discovering that a panel has cracked in transit and then expensively wasting everyone’s time.

Installation and Commissioning

This is where stuff starts to really happen!

First, scaffolding is installed by our careful, experienced team.

Panels are fitted to the roof by our proficient team of roofers.

Customer Journey

The inverter and other components are wired in to the system by our experienced team of electricians.

They’ll confirm the plan with you in the morning, and will take your needs into consideration when, for example, turning the power to the house off (it needs to be off to connect the system, but usually not for very long).

Solar Batteries Gloucester

We’ve been working with our scaffolders, roofers and electricians for years (even before Green Team One was established), and only employ people that we know are reliable, tidy and polite.

Pay the Balance

Once you’re satisfied with the work we’ve done the final balance will be due.

Training on Monitoring Portal etc

This is a really cool part. Once it’s all complete, one of our installation engineers will teach you how to use the system. They’ll show you the app and the monitoring portal that go with your system and answer any questions you have.

You can see how much power your panels are generating, what power your house is using and where it’s coming from, the current level of battery charge and loads more useful information, all in real time, with historical data to see how your system has been performing.

Customer Journey

Grid Documents Received

You receive certification and commissioning paperwork that enables you to apply for the MCS tariff, sell your excess energy and take full advantage of your new system.

Ongoing Support

After the bill is paid and the paperwork is handed over, we’ve still got your back. We’ll keep an eye on your monitoring portal to make sure things are running smoothly.

Don’t just take our word for it…
